Terrorism and Food Insecurity in Nigeria: A Historical Approach

Abstract

Terrorism has emerged as a significant threat in Nigeria where groups like Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen have intensified their activities. This paper explores the nexus between terrorism and food insecurity in Nigeria by focusing on how insurgent activities disrupt agricultural production, displace communities, and undermine food distribution systems. The study adopted the historical approach to data gathering from secondary sources (journals, books, newspapers, magazines, seminar papers and internet) to discussing terrorism and food security in Nigeria. The study finds that terrorist activities of Boko Haram, Fulani Herdsmen, Bandits,
kidnappers in Nigeria disrupt agricultural activities, displace communities, and hamper economic development. All of these are ultimately accountable for the present food insecurity witnessed in Nigeria. The study recommends the strengthening of security forces, intelligence capabilities, national borders, and law enforcement agencies in order to effectively combat terrorist activities
in Nigeria; and boost food production, and distribution in the country.
